‘Chainsaw Man’ Episode 1: Recap And Ending, Explained: Does Denji Find His Place Eventually?

MAPPA, the production house behind hit anime such as "Attack on Titan" and "Jujutsu Kaisen," has released another highly-anticipated anime: "Chainsaw Man." Directed by Ryu Nakayama and Masato Nakazono, "Chainsaw Man" is a gory and adventurous series that has quickly gained a dedicated fan base.

The story follows Denji, the titular Chainsaw Man, as he navigates his newfound team and their adventures. In episode 1, we are introduced to Denji's troubled past as he struggles to repay the debt left by his father. He goes to extreme lengths to earn money, even selling his own body parts and killing and selling devil carcasses to his debtor. He is aided by his pet, a chainsaw devil named Pochito.

But their difficult lifestyle is turned upside down when Denji's debtor betrays him and sends fiends, humans possessed by devils, to kill him. Denji is overpowered and dies a gruesome death, but Pochito revives him by giving him its own heart. This makes Denji one of the few fiends who can fight the devils without being completely possessed.

In the climactic ending of episode 1, Denji transforms into the Chainsaw Man and kills the fiends, including their boss. He is only brought back to his human form after being contacted by another human, Makima, who recruits him into the Public Safety Devil Extermination Division.

Overall, "Chainsaw Man" episode 1 sets up an intriguing and action-packed story with complex and well-developed characters. The animation and character designs are top-notch, with the gory fight scenes being a standout. Fans of MAPPA's previous work and those looking for a thrilling new anime series should definitely check out "Chainsaw Man."
